5 Speed Gearbox

Part Number: M53F03000
The 5 speed in-line gearbox has been designed to give a precise and positive gear change that provides a feeling of unity between vehicle and driver.

A more positive gear change has been achieved by using anti-friction materials between the detent spring and balls.

To prevent double engagement each gear selector rod, except for the one in operation, is locked in neutral while selecting gears. To prevent accidently selecting the reverse gear when changing from 5th to 4th a reverse lockout mechanism is used.

Triple Syncroniser DiagramTo optimise the gear change on 1st and 2nd a triple synchroniser mechanism is  used, this reduces the meshing time and improves gear change operation. This is a compact devise capable of achieving heavy duty meshing. Key components of the triple synchroniser are the synchronizer ring, double cone and inner cone (please see illustration).
