2.0Ltr Engine with Variable Valve Timing
Used in the current Mazda MX5 (NC)
It’s not just another engine…
The 2.0ltr Mazda engine encompasses the latest technology and utilises components that have not been seen in a standard engine of its type before. Variable valve timing has been introduced to achieve improved power giving an impressive 160Ps(118Kw) @ 7000rpm and 188Nm of torque @ 5000rpm from the standard engine.
The cylinder head and block are manufactured from aluminium alloy to maximise weight reduction. Stiffer valve springs, Forged Steel Crankshaft and Forged Steel Con-rods with

fully floating gudgen pins are used to ensure that the engine is capable of coping with high revs. Pocketed pistons with coated side skirts have been included to maximize horsepower, minimize friction, and provide Improved wear resistance. Because of the up-rated components, ongoing performance optimisation with-out further work required to the bottom end is easily achievable.
In an effort to reduce the engine noise and vibration Mazda have used a “silent type” timing chain, torsion damper crankshaft pulley, and a cylinder block that incorporates integrated main bearing caps together with a ladder frame structure.
